Notes for exhibition opening.
"... During this period of increasing cultural homogenization it is interesting
to create an artwork which bridges the external world of fact and physics
with the internal
world
of imagination and possibility.
The environment constructed for your museum presents such an intersection
between worlds.
This particular sculptural volume is an explorationto of the boundaries
between the inanimate and animate through the inclusion of inter-active
electronics. By using the computer to mediate sensor input into
programmed responses, the traditional experience
of the passive art
viewer
is elevated
to that
of
active participant as music is created by audience movement.
In one regard the DREAMSCAPE is a continuation of the classical Greek
quest for the creation of living sculpture. In a more timely aspect
it is the utilization of contemporary materials (of computers, software,
and everyday
objects) recombined to create a plaything for the imagination.
In still another way, it is an example of a kind of intimacy that is
now made increasingly possible between participant and the spirit of
the artist
as mediated by contemporary technology..."
